Valencia and the passion for music

Wednesday, November 22nd, is Musicians' Day, so in today's blog, we're going to talk about Valencia and the music in its most inspiring streets.

A passion for music permeates every corner of Valencia. From the traditional bands to the presence of angelic musicians in the Cathedral, music becomes the leitmotif of this city. The presence of Berklee College of Music, the largest private music university in the world outside the United States, is no coincidence. The story of the men and women who have found inspiration in the streets of this ancient city deserves to be heard. Join us through the squares, streets, and avenues dedicated to these artists, in a music-loving tribute of pure love. Some significant examples will guide us on this revealing journey.

Maestro José Serrano Street

This great composer of more than 50 zarzuelas is remembered primarily for his most popular creations. He is none other than the author of the famous Valencian Regional Exhibition of 1909; this anthem was later adopted as the official anthem of the Valencian Community. We also owe José Serrano credit for the creation of the famous pasodoble (El fallero), a classic of the parades and official events during the festivities in honor of Saint Joseph.

Francesc Tàrrega Street

This great musician and guitar virtuoso left his mark on stages in Paris and London. His creative legacy includes iconic pieces such as "Memories of the Alhambra." However, he never imagined that his most famous melody would be the inspiration for the most recognized ringtone of all time: the Nokia classic. Who can predict how he will be remembered? Thanks to a mobile phone, the thirteen notes of his "Great Waltz" reached eternity.

The streets of pianist Amparo and pianist José

The talented Iturbi siblings, Amparo and José, stood out as prodigious pianists from an early age. Their exceptional technique led them to international fame very early on. José shone as a concert artist, composer, and conductor. His renown peaked when he made his debut in the United States and led his own orchestra, always performing alongside his sister. Hollywood sought him out as a musical comedy pianist for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which earned him a star on the iconic Walk of Fame. Although sometimes overshadowed by José, Amparo also stood out as a virtuoso pianist. Since 2021, the city has hosted the Valencia Iturbi International Piano Festival, bringing together prominent national and international musicians. The main hall of the Palau de la Música is named after José in his honor.

The famous Nino Bravo street

Nino Bravo Street is an iconic street in the city of Valencia, named after the famous Valencian singer of the same name. Nino Bravo, whose real name was Luis Manuel Ferri Llopis, was an iconic figure in Spanish music in the 1970s, known for hits such as "Un beso y una flor" and "Libre."

Nino Bravo Street is located in the Patraix neighborhood and is a popular spot for fans and followers of the singer. Along the street, you can find various tributes to Nino Bravo, such as a commemorative plaque in his honor and various artistic murals that pay tribute to his musical legacy.
